Elected government to decide on corridor or port: Tarique Rahman

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has commented that the interim government is giving more priority to the corridor issue or handing over the port to foreigners than finalizing the list of martyrs of the July coup. However, he said that the elected people’s government, not the current government, will decide on the corridor or port.

Tarique Rahman made these remarks while virtually participating in the organization of the 8th founding anniversary of the NDM on Saturday (May 17) night.

The BNP Acting Chairman said that even after 10 months, the interim government has not been able to give a final list of martyrs and casualties of the July revolution. Therefore, questions have arisen among the common people about the capacity of this government. Questions have arisen about whether the government is indifferent or obsessed with power.

‘It seems that the current government is giving more priority to the corridor issue or handing over the port to foreigners than finalizing the list of martyrs. But not the current government, but the elected people’s parliament and government will decide whether to provide the corridor or port,’ Tarique Rahman added.

    He said,

Although the BNP had been talking about providing a roadmap for the government’s action plan from the beginning, the government did not respond to it. Rather, the government has cleverly blocked the demand for the announcement of a specific day and date for the national election in a novel fence of reforms.

In this situation, the acting chairman of the BNP has called on the government of Dr. Yunus to quickly announce the date of the national election without unnecessarily confusing the situation. He also expressed hope that the government will fulfill its responsibility to establish the rights of the people, beyond the temptation of greed and profit.
