Little Rafsa dies after getting a balloon stuck in her throat

A 7-month-old baby named Rafsa died after getting a balloon stuck in her throat on her elder brother’s birthday in Gafargaon, Mymensingh.

The incident took place on Monday (May 19) night in Charipara village of Barbaria Union of the upazila. The deceased Rafsa is the daughter of Roni Mia of the area.

Mahabul Alam, UP member of Ward No. 7 of Barbaria Union Parishad, confirmed the matter and said that on Monday, it was the 4th birthday of baby Rafsa’s elder brother Ihan. On this occasion, the family members made preparations to celebrate Ihan’s birthday. Accordingly, everyone, including Ihan’s father, were busy decorating the house by inflating balloons at around 8:30 pm.

Meanwhile, baby Rafsa was sitting on the bed and playing. At this time, unknowingly, Rafsa put a balloon in her mouth, which accidentally got stuck in her throat. Later, the family members realized the matter immediately and rushed her to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex, where the child died on the way.

Such a tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the family and the entire area. The joy of a birthday has turned into sadness.
