Pakistan praises Trump’s role in ceasefire, India denies it

India has rejected claims that the US had any role in the ceasefire with Pakistan. On the other hand, Islamabad has repeatedly thanked President Donald Trump for helping the two countries end their hostilities.

This was reported by Geo News on Tuesday (May 20).

India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire on May 10 after hours of continuous firing along the Line of Control (LoC) that separates Azad Jammu and Kashmir from Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The two sides have been locked in a fierce military conflict since India attacked Pakistan in retaliation for last month’s Pahalgam incident in Jammu and Kashmir.

During a visit to Karachi on Monday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “The US played a key role in the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.”

Referring to President Trump, Sharif said, “Trump is a peace-loving man. I believe his team was very involved in this situation and played a key role in securing the ceasefire.’

Earlier, President Trump told reporters in Washington, ‘We stopped a nuclear conflict. I think it could have been a bad nuclear war, millions of people could have been killed. So I’m very proud of that.’

However, India has rejected these claims. On Monday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri told a parliamentary panel in New Delhi that ‘the ceasefire was a bilateral decision between India and Pakistan. In which no third party was involved. He also said that there was no nuclear signal from Pakistan and India acted in its own interests.’

The committee members questioned why India did not respond to Trump’s repeated demands. One MP asked why India did not inform the United States after making such demands. Especially when Trump has spoken about Kashmir several times.

However, nothing was mentioned in the report on this.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Secretary did not comment on how many Indian aircraft were damaged during the clash, saying that it was a matter of national security.

On the night of May 6 and 7, India launched missile strikes on several cities in Pakistan. New Delhi claimed that the attacks were in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack.

Pakistan then retaliated, leading to a military confrontation between the two countries. After days of fighting, US President Trump announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10. Trump said the ceasefire came after long talks between the US and the leaders of India and Pakistan.
