Siblings drown in pond in Chandpur

A sibling died after drowning in a pond in Haimchar, Chandpur. The incident took place at 9 am on Thursday (May 22) in Parabgula village of Charbhairabi union of the upazila.

The two deceased children are: Ibrahim (4) son of Harunur Rashid Hawlader of the village and his daughter Sadia (2).

According to family sources, the two siblings went out of the house to play at 9 am. At that time, the children’s mother was busy with family work. At one stage, they went to the pond near the house.

Unable to find their children, the mother started searching. After some time, the mother saw them floating in the water and screamed. The people of the house rushed to rescue them and took them to Haimchar Health Complex. The duty doctor of the emergency department there examined the two and declared them dead.

Amit Kumar Sarkar, the duty doctor of Haimchar Upazila Health Complex, said that the two children who fell into the water died before their family members brought them to the hospital.
