Low pressure area to form in Bay of Bengal, heavy rains expected

The Meteorological Department has forecast the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. This low pressure area may form on Tuesday (May 27). This may increase storms and rains in different parts of the country in the next few days.

This information was given in the regular weather bulletin issued on Monday (May 26) morning.

Meanwhile, at the beginning of the month, the Meteorological Department had said that a low pressure area may form in the sea towards the end of this month. A cyclone may also form from this.

Meteorological Department meteorologist Kazi Jebunnesa said, we have been talking about low pressure for the past few days. The low pressure area may form tomorrow. It is believed that it may develop into a low pressure area. However, it is not yet possible to say whether it will develop into a cyclone or not.

If it develops into a cyclone, its name will be ‘Shakti’. The name was given by Sri Lanka.

He also said that this rain has started since the second week of this month. It is expected to continue for a few more days.

Mustafa Kamal Palash, a meteorology and climate researcher at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, said in a Facebook post that under the influence of a low pressure, the districts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions are expected to receive record-breaking rainfall on May 29, 30 and 31. Over 500 mm of rain is expected over the states of Assam and Meghalaya in Bangladesh and India during these three days.

He also said that the heavy rainfall in which division will be more depends on where on the coast the low pressure will enter Bangladesh and how slowly it will pass over the land. If it enters over Khulna division, there is a high possibility of heavy rainfall in the districts of Rangpur division and Mymensingh division. If it enters over Barisal and Chittagong divisions, there will be heavy rainfall in the districts of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
