Smugglers fled after leaving bags in paddy fields, 1.5 lakh yaba seized
Smugglers fled after leaving bags filled with drugs in a paddy field in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, but 140,000 yaba were seized.
The incident took place at 7:35 pm on Saturday (June 14) at a place called Anjuman Khalpar in Balukhali, Ukhia.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of 64 BGB in Ukhia, said that the BGB received information that drugs were being smuggled through the Ukhia border. Due to which the BGB patrol activities at the Ukhia border were intensified.
On Saturday evening, the regular patrol teams of Balukhali and Palangkhali BOPs in Ukhia were conducting patrol activities inside Bangladesh at a place called Anjuman Khalpar. At that time, at 7:35 pm, the BGB saw 2-3 people coming into Bangladesh from Myanmar and chased both of them as smugglers. One smuggler fled towards Myanmar with a local weapon and two others fled in both directions through the paddy fields with bags filled with drugs. However, despite the chase, the smugglers could not be apprehended.
The BGB commander said that a joint patrol team of BGB from Balukhali and Palongkhali BOPs searched the area and was able to recover 2 blue bags. 140,000 yaba pills were found in the two bags. Although further searches were conducted in the area, no more goods were found. The battalion’s intelligence activities are ongoing to identify the drug smugglers and bring them to justice.
