Court orders marriage of singer Nobel with Eden student

A Dhaka court has ordered the prison authorities to take necessary measures to solemnize the marriage of the former student of Eden Women’s College, the plaintiff in the rape case, with the consent of both parties, according to the registry book.

Nobel’s lawyer filed an application in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter in Dhaka on Wednesday (June 18). In view of that application, the court has ordered the prison authorities to take necessary measures for the marriage as per the consent of both parties.

The application states that Nobel, the accused in the case, has been detained in jail since May 20. Since the plaintiff filed the case due to a misunderstanding between the plaintiff and the accused, the plaintiff and the accused in the case are willing to get married; therefore, it is imperative to grant permission for the marriage of the accused and the plaintiff in jail. After the hearing, the court granted the application.

Earlier, on May 19, at around 2 am, police arrested Nobel from his house in the Demra staff quarters. He was arrested in a case filed by the capital’s Demra police station on charges of forcibly raping a former student of Eden Women’s College while he was locked up in his house. The next day after his arrest, the Dhaka lower court rejected Nobel’s bail and ordered him to be sent to prison.

According to the charges in the case, the plaintiff-victim in the case was living in a rented house in Mohammadpur, Dhaka and studying at Eden Women’s College in Dhaka. In 2018, he met the accused Nobel through social media. Nobel used to talk to the plaintiff on mobile phone. At one stage, on November 12, 2024, after meeting the plaintiff in Mohammadpur, the accused Nobel brought the plaintiff to Nobel’s own house in the Demra police station area, promising to show him his studio.

After arriving at Nobel’s house, when the plaintiff told him to leave the house, the defendant’s associate, an unknown person, with the help of 2 to 3 other defendants, detained the plaintiff in a room of the house, raped her, and recorded the rape video on her mobile phone. The plaintiff threatened to spread the rape video recorded on her mobile phone on social media if the plaintiff did not return to her house as the defendant had said.

The plaintiff did not dare to tell anyone out of fear of the defendant Nobel. Nobel, with the help of his associate, an unknown person, and 2 to 3 other defendants, dragged the plaintiff by the hair up the stairs and detained her in another room. After a video of the incident went viral on social media, the plaintiff’s parents recognized the plaintiff. While searching for her, they called the National Emergency Service on May 19.

Then, with the help of the Demra Police Station, the victim, the plaintiff, came out of the defendant Nobel’s house. The case is currently ongoing and Nobel is in prison. In this situation, on the orders of the court, initiatives are being taken to perform the marriage ceremony between him and the plaintiff in the case.
