Political party registration application period ends on Sunday
Ahead of the upcoming national elections, the deadline to apply for registration of new political parties with the Election Commission (EC) ends tomorrow, Sunday.
On Saturday (June 21), Election Commission sources said that more than 70 applications for registration have been submitted to the EC by Thursday (June 19).
It is also known that several new parties, including the National Citizens Party (NCP), are scheduled to apply on the last day.
When asked whether the application period will be extended, EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz said that it may not be extended again.
The EC issued a notification on March 10 inviting applications for registration of new political parties in the first phase. The last date for application was April 20. By that deadline, 65 new parties had applied for registration.
As 46 other parties, including the NCP, did not submit their applications for registration by April 20, they requested the EC to extend the deadline. Considering their applications, the EC extended the deadline until June 22.
The parties that have applied include—Janata Katha Botel, Bangladesh Reformist Party, Bangladesh Peace Party, Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolan, Jatiya Bhumihin Party, Bangladesh Bekar Samaj, Bangladesh Popular Party, Janata Katha Botel, Conservative Party (BCP), Bangladesh Probashi Kalyanmoy Party, Bangladesh Justice Party (BJAP), Bangladesh Mukti Oikya Dal and Bangladesh Janashakti Party.
In addition, Bangladesh Nagorik Andolan Party, Bangladesh General Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Shahjahan Siraj), Bangladesh Jatiya League, Krishak Sramik Party (KSP), Bhashani Janashakti Party, Bangladesh Faraiji Andolan, Bangladesh People’s Party (BJD), Forward Party, Swadhin Janata Party, Aam Janata Dal, Ahimsa Jana Andolan and several other parties have applied.
