    PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited Receives Green Factory Award 2025

    At a function organized by the Department of Factories of the Ministry of Labor and Employment at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday, the award was received from the guests by the Chairman of PHP Family, prominent industrialist and Ekushey Padak recipient Alhaj Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, and the Managing Director of PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited Md. Zahirul Islam Rinku.

    This year, 30 companies have received the Green Factory Award.

    This award is being given in recognition of excellence in eco-friendly practices, energy efficiency, waste management and working environment.

    This year, companies from various sectors including garments, textiles, leather, pharmaceuticals, food processing, steel, ship-breaking, ship-building have been nominated for the award. This list highlights the diversity of Bangladesh’s industrial sector as well as the importance of environmental responsibility.

    PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries Limited (PHP SBRIL) is a well-known name as one of the largest and most environmentally friendly ship recycling companies in Bangladesh. Established in November 2000, the company has been working with a commitment to sustainable development, worker safety, and environmental protection since its inception. The company currently employs 277 workers. It is an important subsidiary of the PHP family. Its core philosophy is “Happiness, Peace, and Prosperity”. PHP SBRIL has emerged as a pioneer of change in the ship breaking and recycling industry. The company’s vision is to “be the world’s leader in sustainable and safe ship recycling. The company operates in accordance with the internationally recognized Hong Kong Convention 2009 and ILO’s Occupational Safety and Health Guidelines. ORE VITORIA (2018) PHP SBRIL recycles the Brazilian Vale ship “Ore Vitoria” for the first time, which is declared as an HKC certified ‘Green Vessel’. This demonstrates PHP’s commitment to the environment and worker safety. MV KAMO (2023) NYK, a major Japanese shipping company, directly provided PHP SBRIL with the “MV KAMO” ship for recycling. In this case, NYK started the PHP recycling operation under its own supervision and it is marked as the first direct Japanese ship recycling in Bangladesh. Environmentally friendly technologies and processes such as Asbestos and Hazardous Waste Management, IHM (Inventory of Hazardous Materials. Containment System, Zero Discharge Policy have been ensured. Labor Safety and Human Resource Development PHP SBRIL Workers’ safety, healthcare and training are given utmost importance.

    The chief guest of the Green Factory Award 2025 ceremony was Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. Fakkhwat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

    The special guest was Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

    The ceremony was presided over by Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment AHM Shafiquzzaman.

    From the garment sector, Dhaka Textile Limited, Ecotex Limited, Fakir Fashion Limited, Tara Sima Apparels Limited, Auco Tex Limited and Square Fashions Limited were recognized for their environmentally friendly production processes.

    In the textile sector, Akij Textile, Pioneer Denim, KDS Textile Mills and Four H Dyeing and Printing were nominated for sustainable production.

    Electric and Transcom Electronics, Fair Electronics and Walton Hi-Tech Industries have been selected from the electronics sector.

    In the food and beverage sector, Akij Food and Beverage and Habiganj Agro Limited have been nominated for environmentally conscious production and waste management.

    In the tea industry sector, Zerin Tea Garden and Mirzapur Tea Garden have been nominated. From the car manufacturing sector, Pragati Industries, from the accessories and backward linkage sector, Adji Trims, and from the leather industry, Souvenirs Footwear have been recognized for their sustainable activities.

    From the jute industry, Karupanya Rangpur Limited has been nominated, and from the tiles sector, X Ceramics. From the cosmetics sector, Remark HB Limited and Square Toiletries have been nominated. From the pharmaceutical industry, FKF Pharmaceuticals is on the list.

    From the shipbreaking sector, PHP Shipbreaking and Recycling Industries and KR Ship Recycling Yard have been nominated, and from the shipbuilding sector, Khulna Shipyard has been nominated.

    BSRM Steels from the steel industry and Seven Circle (Bangladesh) Limited from the cement industry have been nominated for the award.
