Salahuddin Ahmed BNP agrees on 10-year term for Prime Minister, but…
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said that the National Consensus Commission discussed the principles, National Constitutional Council (NCC), and the Prime Minister’s term. He made this statement at a media briefing after a meeting with the National Consensus Commission on Wednesday (June 25).
Salahuddin Ahmed said that the BNP wants to uphold the principles of the Fifth Amendment. Where there is full trust and faith in Bismillah and Allah. At the same time, BNP wants to add equality, human dignity, social justice, democracy, and religious freedom and harmony as per the commission’s proposal. He said that the BNP agrees on the Prime Minister’s 10-year term. However, if the powers of the executive branch are reduced by forming a committee like the NCC, it will not be possible to agree on the Prime Minister’s term.
‘It is not possible to run the state properly by reducing the powers of the executive branch alone. We need to get out of the idea that the power of the executive branch should be reduced just because one person became a dictator,’ added Salahuddin Ahmed. The BNP standing committee member also said that recommendations have been sought for the appointment system by reforming the law on constitutional institutions, so that the search committee can work transparently. In addition, if an independent election system, judiciary and free media are ensured, the democratic system will be strengthened.
