    Brother stabbed to death by brother over house ownership dispute

    A brother was stabbed to death by his brother over a house ownership dispute in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. The murder took place on Thursday (June 26) at 10 am next to the railway line adjacent to Adarshgram in Ward No. 8 of Rashidnagar Union in Ramu Upazila. The deceased, Shawkat Osman (23), is the son of the late Hamid Hoshon of Adarshgram in Ward No. 9 of Bharuakhali Union in Sadar Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. He is a tiler by profession.

    According to the police, Shawkat Osman used to work as a tiler in Cox’s Bazar town. Separated from his brothers, he lived with his mother. His other two brothers, Saiful and Kausar, recently built a new house and started living in the village. Shawkat Osman had been in a dispute with the two brothers over the ownership and possession of the new house. Shawkat and his brothers had several arguments and fights over this.

    On Thursday morning, Shawkat went to a local station to drink tea at a shop owned by a certain Shamsur. At one point, the brothers Saiful and Kausar, who were at odds, suddenly attacked him. They then dragged him to the side of the local railway line. After that, the two brothers stabbed Shawkat Osman in various parts of his body and hit him with a hammer. Later, leaving him there, the attackers fled.

    Quoting locals, Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taibur Rahman said, “Upon receiving information about the incident, relatives rescued Shawkat Osman in an injured condition and took him to the Ramu Upazila Health Complex. At that time, the doctor on duty at the hospital declared him dead.”

    He also said, “The attackers have been absconding since the incident. Initially, the police received information that the incident occurred due to a dispute between the brothers over the ownership and possession of a newly built house. Police operations are underway to arrest those involved in the incident. The body has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said.
