Concerns about preparing a national charter on time: Ali Riaz

There has not been promising progress in consensus building, and there are also concerns about preparing a national charter on time, said Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz. He told reporters this after the 7th day of the second phase of discussions between political parties and the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital this morning (June 29).

At the time, he called on political parties to rise above individuals, parties, and opinions and give their opinions considering the benefits of the state. At the beginning of the discussion, tributes were paid to all the martyrs, from the 52 Language Movement to the 24 Movement.

Stating that the Consensus Commission is not an opponent of any political party, Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz said that fulfilling everyone’s responsibilities in building a state structure is the only way to pay tribute to the July martyrs. The charter must be implemented in such a way that it reflects the aspirations of the people. Appointment committees of constitutional and statutory bodies, bicameral parliament, election process of the upper house, responsibilities and roles of the upper house. These four issues have been fixed for dialogue on Wednesday to reach a consensus.
