Attack on Satkhira Press Club, 10 injured
An attack on journalists took place at Satkhira Press Club. The incident took place today, Monday (June 30) at around 12:30 pm. At that time, 10 media workers including DBC Television correspondent Belal Hossain, Bhorer Akash newspaper correspondent Aminur Rahman, and Daily Dhaka Dak correspondent Taufiquzzaman Litu were seriously injured due to head injuries. Satkhira Press Club President Abul Kashem said that outside terrorists attacked the press club while entering it. Two people’s heads were injured in this. Besides, many others were injured. They are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
He also said that the attack was led by the occupying forces of the press club. Although the police were present at the time, their role is questionable. In protest, a protest program and human chain have been called for tomorrow morning at Satkhira New Market premises. He also said that preparations for the case are underway. Satkhira Sadar Police Station OC Shaminul Haque said, we have tried to normalize the situation. Currently, the situation is calm. The army is currently stationed at the press club to reduce tension after the incident.
It is worth noting that on August 5, Abu Sayeed and Abdul Bari were declared president and general secretary of the Satkhira press club. Later, another new committee of the press club was announced with Abul Kashem as president and Asaduzzaman as general secretary. There was a dispute between the two groups over this. Later today, 70-80 journalists led by Abul Kashem and Asaduzzaman entered the press club when outside terrorists attacked them.
