Youth sentenced to life in Faridpur child rape case

A court in Faridpur has sentenced a youth named Saifur Rahman (30) to life in prison in a case of rape of an 11-year-old girl. At that time, the accused was fined one lakh taka and another three years of rigorous imprisonment in default. Judge (District and Sessions Judge) Shamima Parveen of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal gave this order on Tuesday (July 29) afternoon. The accused was present in the court when the verdict was announced. Later, he was taken to jail under police guard. The convicted Saifur Rahman is the son of Mohiuddin Rahman of Guhalakshmipur area of Faridpur Municipality. In this regard, PP Advocate Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan Ratan of the Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal said that Saifur Rahman forcibly took the girl from her house and raped her. Later, the child came home and informed the family members about the matter. The child’s father filed a case with the Kotwali police station in this incident. He also said that we are happy with this verdict. The plaintiff has got justice. The rule of law has been established through this verdict. According to the case sources, the girl lived as a tenant with her parents in Saifur Rahman’s house in the Guhalakshmipur area of the municipality. On the night of October 21, 2023, Saifur Rahman took the child behind the house and raped her. At one point, when the child screamed, Saifur Rahman let her go. Later, Saifur forbade the child to tell anyone about the incident, threatening to kill her and her parents and brother if she told anyone. After that, when she returned home and fell ill, the child told her family about the matter. Later, the child’s parents admitted her to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The child’s father filed a case with the Kotwali police station as the plaintiff in this incident. After the testimony and hearing of the case, the court announced the verdict today.
