1 killed, 4 injured in clash between BNP factions in Jhenaidah

A person named Mohabbat Ali (55) was killed in a clash between BNP factions over dominance in the Nakobaria area of Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah. Four others were also injured. The incident took place around 8 am on Sunday (June 1).
The deceased Mohabbat Ali is the son of the late Habibar Rahman of Nakobaria village in the upazila. The injured are Rifazul Islam (40) son of Rustom Molla of Boro Talian village in the upazila, Mikail Hossain son of Amzed Molla of the same village, Rezaul Islam (43) son of Tofazzel Hossain of Nakobaria village and Yunus Ali (60) son of the late Habibar Rahman of the same village.
Police and locals said that there had been a long-standing dispute between Nazrul Islam and Arif Hossain of Jamal Union over social dominance. On Sunday morning, a clash broke out between supporters of Nazrul Islam Molla and Arif in Nakobaria village. At that time, people from both sides attacked each other with country-made weapons, injuring at least 5 people.
The injured were rescued and admitted to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. One of them, named Mohabbat, was referred to Faridpur in critical condition. He died there later in the afternoon. Locals also said that there is currently panic in the area due to this incident.
Former Jamal Union BNP president Mahafuzur Rahman said that Nazrul Islam Molla had been involved in Awami League politics for a long time. After August 5, he became desperate to establish a social party in the area by managing a faction of BNP. Along with this, Mahafuzur Rahman also alleged that he often attacked BNP leaders and activists along with Awami League Chairman of Kola Union Alauddin Al Azad. Later, he said that the clash broke out when he came to attack this Sunday morning.
Kaliganj Police Station OC Shahidul Islam Howlader said one person was killed in the clash. He also said that police and army are stationed in the area to control the situation.
