2 fake RAB members arrested at Payra Bridge toll plaza
Police have arrested two fake RAB members during a search at the Payra Bridge toll plaza in Lebukhali, Patuakhali.
They were arrested at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday (May 12). Three RAB belts, two fake pistols, a walkie-talkie, two car number plates with the same number and a used mobile set were seized from them. Police said the detainees are members of an inter-district robbery gang.
The detainees are: Alamin Duari, a resident of Suryamoni Union in Baufal Upazila of Patuakhali, and Tarek Bepari, a resident of Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumki Police Station Md. Zakir Hossain said that a police team stopped a suspicious private car at the check post of the Payra Bridge toll plaza around 9:30 pm on Tuesday and searched it. At that time, three RAB belts, two fake pistols, a handcuff and a walkie-talkie were found in a bag kept near the driver’s feet.
There were a total of 6 people in the car, including the driver. During the interrogation, three ran away and the driver quickly drove away in a private car. The OC said that the remaining two detainees are being interrogated.
Patuakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Sajedul Islam Sajal said that the group was entering Patuakhali district with the intention of robbery using fake RAB identities. The names and identities given by them are being verified. Efforts are also being made to arrest the rest.
