3 BNP, Jubo Dal members arrested for assaulting journalist in Patuakhali
Joint forces have arrested 3 leaders of BNP and Jubo Dal in connection with the attack on a journalist in Mirzaganj, Patuakhali. They were arrested on Tuesday (August 5) night. The arrested are Zahid Hasan Parag Munshi (40), Ferdous Hasan Sourav Munshi (35) and Badoruddauja Johnny Munshi (36). Johnny Munshi is a member of the Upazila BNP, Sourav Munshi is the joint convener of the Upazila Jubo Dal and Parag Munshi is a member of the Jubo Dal. Mirzaganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed the arrest. According to police sources, miscreants beat up journalist Siam Rahman Himel (25) on Tuesday (August 5) evening over a previous dispute. When some people came forward to protect Himel, they were also beaten up. Later, locals rescued Himel and other injured people and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, the miscreants gathered in the hospital courtyard with country-made weapons. When a special team of Mirzaganj Police and Army reached there on receiving the information, they fled. Himel filed a case with Mirzaganj Police Station in this incident, and the Army and Police conducted a raid that night and arrested 3 people. At that time, the country-made weapons with them were recovered. Mirzaganj Police Station OC Nazrul Islam said that the raid is continuing to arrest other accused involved in the incident.
