3 killed in separate road accidents in Gopalganj
Three people were killed in road accidents at two places in Gopalganj on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. The accidents occurred in the early hours of Sunday (June 22) in Gopinathpur of Sadar upazila and in the afternoon in the Tuku Bazar area of Kashiani.
Bhatiapara Highway Police Station Inspector Md. Makhsudur Rahman Murad said that an unidentified speeding bus ran over an old man named Sarwar Sheikh (90) while he was crossing the road in the Tuku Bazar area of Kashiani upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna highway on Sunday afternoon. He was seriously injured. He was rescued and admitted to the Kashiani Upazila Health Complex. Sarwar died while undergoing treatment there.
Sarwar is the son of Moinuddin Khan of Orakandi village in Kashiani upazila.
Earlier in the morning, a Dhaka-bound covered van hit a passenger, Nasim, from behind near the Gopinathpur police outpost in Sadar upazila. The pickup van and the Nasimon fell to the side of the road. Nasimon’s passenger, Bipul Kumar Pal (52), was killed on the spot. On receiving the information, a team of highway police reached the spot and was conducting rescue operations. Traffic on the Dhaka-Khulna highway was stopped during the rescue operations.
At that time, a Dhaka-bound Sohag Paribahan bus leaving Satkhira from Satkhira hit the back of a parked pickup van. The bus’s helper, Shaon Sheikh (18), was killed in the incident.
The deceased Bipul is the son of Manik Kumar Pal of Krishnadia village in Muksudpur upazila and Shaon is the son of Raja Sheikh of Daulatpur area of Khulna.
