3 people beaten to death in Muradnagar, Comilla: Cases against 63 people including UP chairman
A case has been filed in the case of beating and hacking to death of 3 people from the same family in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla. A case has been filed against 38 people including local UP chairman Shimul Billah and 25 other unidentified people. The relatives of the deceased filed the case at Bangra Bazar Police Station on Friday (July 5). The case has been accused of inciting public anger against the family in a planned manner against the chairman. Incidentally, Ruby Akhter, her daughter Ruma and son Russell were killed in a gang-rape in Karaibari on Thursday. Russell’s wife alleged that the entire family was threatened with death the previous night. She claims that the incident was planned and initiated at least 24 hours ago.
Local UP chairman Shimul Billah. The allegation against him is that he went to the spot and incited UP members Bachchu Mia and Bashir to form a mob to kill them. However, Shimul Billah told Jamuna TV that he asked the agitated crowd to stop. He said that he advised them to seek help from law enforcement and the administration if necessary. Locals allege that Ruby and her family members have been involved in various crimes including drug dealing in the area for a long time. When the local UP chairman and a member went to talk about this, Ruby and her family members attacked them. At that time, Ruby Akhter and her son Russell Mia were beaten and hacked to death. At one stage, when her daughter Jonaki tried to escape, she was also beaten to death. However, the police say that Ruby Akhter has multiple drug cases against her. Still, such mob violence is unacceptable.
