427 lives lost on roads in 15 days of Eid pilgrimage
427 people lost their lives on roads, railways and waterways in the 15 days of Eid pilgrimage. According to the Passenger Welfare Association, 390 people were killed and 1,182 injured in 379 road accidents from May 31 to June 14. In total, 427 people were killed and 1,194 injured in 415 accidents.
The highest number of accidents occurred involving motorcycles. Compared to the previous Eid-ul-Azha, accidents increased by 22.65% and fatalities by 16.07%. The injury rate increased by 55.11%.
The organization has identified 9 reasons for the accidents—including fewer holidays, inefficient drivers, free movement of auto-rickshaws, etc. They have made 12 recommendations to prevent accidents, including removing small vehicles from the highway, declaring a four-day holiday, and adopting a long-term plan.
