5 killed in New York gun attack, including police officer of Bangladeshi origin
Five people, including a police officer of Bangladeshi origin, were killed in a gun attack in New York, United States. The deceased Didarul Islam’s home is in Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar district of Sylhet. Didarul Islam, 36, was on duty in the New York City Police Department. On Monday (July 29), two mass shootings took place in two states of the United States. He had been working in the New York City Police Department for 3 and a half years. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisk said at a press conference, “Didarul Islam died as a hero.” Jessica also said that Didarul has two young sons and his wife is now pregnant with their third child. A gunman attacked a high-rise building in Manhattan, New York. 4 people died in the random shooting. Police have identified the gunman as Shane Tamura, a Las Vegas resident. He committed suicide after the attack. Tisk said he had a “documented history of mental health issues,” but the motive for the attack is still unknown. “We’re trying to understand why he targeted this specific location.” Meanwhile, the city’s mayor, Eric Adams, said another man was seriously injured in the incident and remains in critical condition.
