60,000 army personnel to work in elections: Press Secretary
60,000 army personnel will work in the 13th National Parliament elections, said the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam. He spoke to reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital after the second meeting led by the Chief Advisor on election preparations on Monday (July 28). The Press Secretary said, elections are coming up. The law and order situation has been reviewed focusing on the elections. The Chief Advisor had held such a meeting a few days ago. The second meeting was held today in continuation of that. Many important issues were discussed in this meeting and decisions were made. He said, ‘With the elections ahead, a lot of misinformation is already circulating. It will intensify further in the future. We will be able to debunk the misinformation very quickly through the National Information Center. There was a detailed discussion on this issue.’ Shafiqul Alam said, the meeting discussed increasing coordination between the army, police and local administration. He said that 150,000 police personnel will be trained on election matters in three months from September. In the meeting, the chief advisor said that not much good work of the police is coming forward. Stating that the army will be a striking force in the election, Shafiqul Alam said that 60,000 army personnel will work in the election. Asked whether the election date will be announced on August 5 or not, he said that there is no information on this yet. Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said that the chief advisor has ordered to identify the election hotspots. The process of reshuffle of the administration was also discussed in the meeting.
