77% of Gaza under Israeli control
Israeli forces control 77% of Gaza. In a statement, the media office of the Palestinian independence movement Hamas said that Israeli troops are occupying the territory by bombing and driving away local Palestinians. The Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency reported this information in a report on Sunday (May 25).
The official media office in Gaza said in a statement that “field information and verified analysis show that the Israeli occupation forces currently effectively control approximately 77% of the total geographical area of Gaza.”
The statement added that the Israeli army has established this control by preventing Palestinians from accessing their areas, lands and properties through direct ground attacks, the deployment of troops in civilian and residential areas, or shelling and forced displacement.
Last Thursday, the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported that the Israeli army plans to capture 70-75% of Gaza within about three months as part of a wider military operation in Gaza.
Previously, Israeli forces have been carrying out a brutal military operation in Gaza since October 2023, ignoring international calls for a ceasefire, in which more than 53,900 Palestinians have been killed so far—most of them women and children.
Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
In addition, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for war crimes against unarmed civilians in Gaza.
