9 injured after elevator of Karwan Bazar building collapses

Around 9 people were injured when an elevator of the BDBL building in the capital’s Karwan Bazar collapsed. The incident took place at 8:45 am on Tuesday (May 27).

The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in the capital. Among them, several are in critical condition. It is learned that the 18-storey building is owned by BDBL Bank. It houses offices of various government and private organizations. The offices of the media outlet Banik Barta and Ekattor Television are located in the building.

Eyewitnesses said that three of the building’s four elevators have been broken for a long time. It is learned that despite repeated requests, the BDBL authorities did not pay attention. When the employees of various offices in the building became angry, the BDBL authorities closed the elevators and offices and fled. They demanded a proper investigation into the incident and action be taken.
