ACC catches irregularities in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital raid

The ACC has found evidence of a syndicate taking patients to the ward from in front of the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and extorting extra money from the general public for ambulance services. In a raid at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Wednesday (June 25) afternoon, the ACC found evidence of taking extra money and causing suffering to patients.

Amir Hossain, Assistant Director of the ACC’s Rajshahi office, said that many of the outsourcing workers who are on a daily wage basis at the hospital take patients from the emergency department to different wards on trolleys. At that time, they collect Tk 200 and sometimes Tk 500 from the relatives of the patients. This is unfair.

On the other hand, private ambulance drivers take Tk 1,000 extra from the relatives of the patients and the deceased through a syndicate. The ACC will send a written report to the ACC Commission to take action in this regard. The hospital authorities said that the outsourcing workers receive Tk 4,000 per month. If the patient’s relatives are happy, they take money. Measures will be taken to stop this.
