Armed forces will decide how severe the retaliation will be: Iran at UN

The US has ‘imposed war’ on Iran under a fabricated and unreasonable pretext, Iran’s UN representative Amir Saeed Iravani said.

At an emergency meeting of the Security Council called by Iran at the UN headquarters on Sunday (June 22), he said that Iran has the right to defend itself against ‘blatant aggression’ by the US.

The Iranian representative also commented that the US has engaged in an ‘unnecessary and costly’ war due to pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

He said that the country’s armed forces will decide ‘when, how and to what extent the appropriate response will be given’ from Iran.

Iravani blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that Netanyahu has dragged the US into ‘another costly and baseless war’. He said that the actions of the US and Israel are a ‘clear violation’ of international law.

Iravani also said that Israel has spread a “false and deceptive story” that Iran is “on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons.”

He said that the silence, duplicity and cooperation of international organizations and some Western countries such as France and the UK are equally reprehensible.

He called on the UN Security Council to hold the US and Israel fully accountable.

Meanwhile, representatives of China and Russia issued statements condemning the US attack at this Security Council meeting.

The Russian representative criticized the US attack as irresponsible. The Chinese representative said that the US attack is a clear violation of international law.

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has once again opened his mouth about the current regime in Iran. In a post on his Truth social account, he raised the question – if Iran cannot be “great again”, then why not change that regime?

Trump wrote on Sunday, “While the term ‘regime change’ may not be politically correct, if the current Iranian government cannot make Iran great again – why not change???”
