    Awami League leader detained from his son’s wedding ceremony

    Police have detained Fakhrul Anwar, former industry and commerce secretary of the North District Awami League, from his son’s wedding reception at the Navy Convention Hall in the Tiger Pass area of ​​Chittagong city. He is the uncle of former MP Khadijatul Anwar Soni from Chittagong-2 constituency and the younger brother of late MP Rafiqul Anwar.

    Deputy Commissioner (North) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Muhammad Faisal Ahmed confirmed the arrest to the media.

    Police claim that there are multiple cases against Fakhrul Anwar, which are being verified.

    According to local sources, the wedding reception of Awami League leader Fakhrul Anwar’s son was held at the Navy Community Center. Former MP from Fatikchhari, Tariqat Federation Chairman Nazibul Bashar Bhandari and MP Khadijatul Anwar, along with many leaders and activists of the North District Awami League and its affiliated organizations, were present there, according to news spread on social media. Around 9 pm, hundreds of people gathered outside the community center and started chanting slogans like ‘My brother is in the grave, why is the murderer outside’ and ‘Abu Said is not impressed, the war is not over’. The Navy Convention Hall was in turmoil for a long time due to the protests. Later, Fakhrul Anwar was arrested in a joint operation by the police and the army.

    Incidentally, Fakhrul Anwar’s son got married to the granddaughter of former Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor M Manjur Alam. There was a post-wedding reception at the Navy Convention. Many leaders and activists of the North District of Awami League were seen there. However, when the situation became chaotic, most of the guests left the venue.
