Ban on leaving the country for former MP Iqbal and his wife
The court has banned the departure of former MP of Gazipur-3 constituency Muhammad Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, his wife Nigar Sultana Jhuma and Iqbal’s brother Sakhwat Hossain.
On Sunday (June 1), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order in response to the application of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department of the ACC, Akhtarul Islam, told the media.
The ACC’s application said that an investigation is underway against Muhammad Iqbal Hossain for acquiring assets beyond known income. Although letters were issued as per the rules for their statement in the interest of the investigation, they did not appear to give their statement on the specified date and time. During the investigation, reliable sources learned that they may flee the country and flee abroad. Therefore, their travel abroad needs to be canceled for the sake of a fair investigation.
The court later granted the application and ordered a ban on their departure from the country.
