    BGB member dies in lightning strike while patrolling border

    A BGB member died in a lightning strike while patrolling the border in Roumari upazila of Kurigram. Five others were injured during the incident.

    A thunderstorm began in Kurigram district on Wednesday (May 14) at around 11 pm. The tragic accident occurred at around 1 am on the Chhat Karaibari-Dharmapur border of Dantbhanga union of the upazila.

    The deceased Riyad Hossain (32) was a sepoy of Dantbhanga BOP of Jamalpur 35 BGB battalion. He is the son of Abdul Latif of Srirampur village of Diyara union of Atapara upazila of Netrokona district.

    The injured are BGB member Habildar Md. Jasim (52), sepoy Nadim (28), sepoy Shahin (28) and Ansar member Ferdous Hossain (36). The matter was confirmed by the command of Jamalpur-35 BGB Battalion. According to BGB and police sources, a group of BGB members were patrolling the Chhatkraibari-Dharmapur border in the Main Pillar 1056 area of ​​the international border of the Roumari border on Wednesday night. At that time, they were caught in rain and lightning. Later, 4 BGB members and an Ansar member were seriously injured in the lightning strike. Later, they were taken to Roumari Hospital in their injured condition. At that time, a BGB member named Riyad Hossain died. Two of the injured were referred to Mymensingh Medical Hospital by the doctor on duty. The remaining two are undergoing treatment at the Roumari Upazila Health Complex. Dr. Nabiul Islam, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Roumari Upazila Health Complex, said that a BGB member was brought to the hospital dead after being struck by lightning. Two more BGB members were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital after their condition deteriorated. The rest are being treated at Roumari Hospital. Lutfar Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Roumari Police Station, said the incident occurred when a lightning strike occurred while they were patrolling the border. One BGB member died after being struck by lightning. Several others are hospitalized with injuries.
