    BNP leader Riyad arrested in extortion case

    The Immigration Police has arrested Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury, the Organizing Secretary of Narayanganj’s Fatulla Police Station BNP, in an extortion case. He was arrested from the capital’s Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday (May 15).

    Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder confirmed the arrest of Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury. He told Somoy Sangbad, “The airport police have arrested him from Dhaka Airport in an extortion case. The process of bringing the arrested Riyad to Narayanganj is underway. A team of district police has been sent to Dhaka to bring him. After bringing Riyad to Narayanganj, further legal action will be taken against him, the District Superintendent of Police also said.

    Meanwhile, BNP has expelled Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury, the Organizing Secretary of Narayanganj’s Fatulla Police Station BNP, from all posts, including the primary membership, of the party on charges of violating party discipline.

    On Thursday, a notice signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the order to expel Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury.

    In the notice, Rizvi expelled Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury for violating party discipline and engaging in immoral activities that went against the party’s policies, ideals and solidarity.

    Earlier, an allegation was made against Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury, the organizing secretary of Fatulla police station BNP, for threatening to burn the garments of a garment trader in Fatulla, Narayanganj. Recently, an audio of Riyad’s threatening phone conversation spread on social media, creating a huge controversy.
