    BNP leader with gun arrested in Sonargaon

    Police have arrested a BNP leader with a gun in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on charges of threatening to shoot and kill a Saudi expatriate after not receiving a bribe. The accused is Shahjahan Bhuiyan. He is the president of Ward No. 4 BNP of Sadipur Union.

    He was arrested from the Amgaon area of ​​Sadipur Union on Sunday (June 23) night.

    According to local sources, Sohrab Hossain, a Saudi expatriate, prepared a pond next to his house in the Amgaon area of ​​Sadipur Union of the upazila for fish farming a week ago. Later, Ward No. 4 BNP president Shahjahan Bhuiyan and his men demanded a bribe of Tk 5 lakh from him.

    For refusing to pay the demanded bribe, a group of 10-12 people led by Shahjahan Bhuiyan and Farzana Karim beat him up on Sunday afternoon.

    At one stage, BNP leader Shahjahan Bhuiyan threatened to shoot him with a gun. When his wife Fahmida Parveen came forward, the accused also beat her and injured her. Expatriate Sohrab Hossain filed a complaint with Sonargaon Police Station.

    Earlier, a video of BNP leader Shahjahan Bhuiyan arguing with a gun went viral on social media. The incident drew sharp criticism. Later that night, the police conducted a raid and arrested him from the Amgaon area.

    Officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station Mofizur Rahman said that the armed BNP leader has been arrested. He also said that his licensed gun will be confiscated at this time.
