Carmichael College shuts down indefinitely over 37-point demands
Students of Rangpur Carmichael College are observing a complete shutdown program for 37-point demands, including new academic buildings, departments, residential halls, buses, development of campus transportation system and strengthening security.
The students protested by boycotting classes and exams from 11 am on Monday (June 23). At that time, they locked the administrative building, which stopped administrative activities. Along with this, the students also continued to protest by taking a position in front of the administrative building.
Later, the army announced that they would continue the shutdown until their demands were met.
The students said that they have been on the ground to demand their demands since August 5. But even after 10 months, no solution has been found except for assurances. At that time, the students demanded that the VC and Education Advisor of the National University understand the rationality of the demands and implement them.
In this regard, Carmichael College Principal Professor Mostafizur Rahman said, “We are talking to the National University VC and Education Advisor about all the issues. We have informed them of all the problems in writing. We want the demands to be implemented quickly.”
