Chief Advisor to Japan tomorrow, 7 MoUs to be signed
Chief Advisor to the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus will visit Japan on Tuesday (May 27) night for a four-day visit. He will participate in the Nikkei Forum conference in Tokyo on May 29-30.
Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddiqui gave this information at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (May 26) regarding the Chief Advisor’s visit.
He said that the Chief Advisor will visit Japan from May 28-31. He will leave Dhaka for Tokyo on the night of May 27. The two countries will sign 7 MoUs during the visit. In addition, the Chief Advisor will propose a low-interest loan of one billion dollars from Japan. Which will play a very important role for the economy. During this visit, Dr. Yunus will be awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Soka University of Japan.
The Foreign Secretary said that all unresolved issues of Dhaka-Tokyo relations will be discussed during the Chief Advisor’s visit to Japan. However, the military sector is not a priority there. He also said that talks will be held on resuming direct air communication with Japan, which was suspended due to the aircraft crisis.
After taking office on August 8 last year, Dr. Muhammad Yunus attended the UN session in New York last September. Then, the Chief Advisor attended the COP-29 conference in Azerbaijan in November. Last December, Dr. Yunus visited Egypt to attend the D-8 conference.
In January this year, he attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. Dr. Yunus visited China in March. The Chief Advisor visited Thailand in April and finally attended the funeral of Pope Francis in Qatar and Vatican City. This time, he is going to Japan.
