Colorful marine ‘angelfish’ caught in Kuakata net

A colorful species of marine fish has been caught in a fishing net in Kuakata. Although the fish looks like an aquarium fish, it is known as ‘Angelfish’ to the locals. When the fish was brought to the Mahipur Fisheries Port on Sunday (August 10) morning, curious people gathered to see it. Fisherman Anwar Majhi said that the fish was caught in a trawler named ‘FB Zarif Tarif’, where it was caught with other fish. Worldfish-Bangladesh Research Assistant Md. Bakhtiar Rahman said that this fish called Angelfish is mainly found in the coral areas of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its length can be up to 40 centimeters. It is very rare in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. He also said that its scientific name is Pomacanthus imperator. This 16-inch-long fish has a dark blue color with yellow spots on its back and a special shape like a blue-black mask on its face. Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said that angelfish is very rare off the coast of Bangladesh. It lives in the deep sea and is caught in nets along with other fish. This is good news for fishermen because its commercial value is good.
