Contempt of Court Case: Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail
The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India in the face of a mass uprising by students and the public, to 6 months in jail in a contempt of court case. In addition, Shakil Akand Bulbul of Gobindaganj, Gaibandha has been sentenced to two months in jail. A three-member tribunal led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar gave this order on Wednesday (July 2) afternoon. As a result, Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced for the first time since her escape. On October 25 last year, Sheikh Hasina had threatened to kill 227 people in a telephone conversation with an Awami League leader from Gaibandha.
Later, the prosecution filed a case regarding this. Although there is no precedent for appointing a lawyer for a fugitive accused in such cases, Sheikh Hasina got a lawyer at the government’s expense in the interest of justice. On Wednesday, a contempt of court hearing was held against the fugitive Sheikh Hasina and two others at Tribunal One. The tribunal listened to the leaked audio. Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to 6 months in prison after her statement, “I have a license to kill 227 people,” was proven to be a threat to the judiciary.
