Corona patients increase by more than 1200 percent in a week in India

The number of corona patients in India is increasing at an alarming rate. In just a week, active corona patients in the country have increased by more than 1,200 percent.

On Sunday (June 1), the NDTV news agency reported that the number of active Covid patients in India has crossed 3,000 as of May 31.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India, there were 3,395 active coronavirus patients in the country as of Saturday morning. This is about 1,200 percent more than last week. On May 22, there were 257 active corona patients in India. And on May 26, there were 1,100.

According to the ministry, 685 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country between Friday and Saturday, of which at least four people have died.

NDTV says that the states most affected by corona are Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi. 189 new Covid cases were reported in Kerala on Friday. The number of active Covid patients in this state is 1,336.

Apart from this, there are 467 active patients in Maharashtra, 375 in Delhi, 265 in Gujarat, 234 in Karnataka, 205 in West Bengal, 185 in Tamil Nadu and 117 in Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, 60 active patients have been reported in Rajasthan, 41 in Puducherry, 26 in Haryana, 17 in Andhra Pradesh and 16 in Madhya Pradesh. 26 people have died of Covid in India this year.

What is the reason for the increase in Covid patients in India?

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that genome sequencing of samples of corona patients in the west and south has shown that the new variants are subvariants of Omicron.

ICMR chief Dr. Rajiv Behel said that these subvariants are the main reason for the increase in infections. He said that the number of Covid-19 patients is increasing first in South India, then in West India and now in North India. All these patients are being monitored through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).

He also said that the intensity of the infection is very low so far, so there is no need to panic. According to him, so far most patients are getting infected with mild symptoms, and therefore the number of complex patients is very low. However, he said, it is best to be careful and be prepared.

The number of infected people in India so far in this epidemic that started in 2020 is 45 million. About 550,000 people have died. The country’s Health Ministry claims that it has been possible to vaccinate 720 million people in India under the world’s largest vaccination program.
