Demanding extortion in the name of a new party, people arrested 8 people and handed them over to the police
Police have arrested 8 youths in Khulna on charges of demanding extortion in the name of forming a new party. On Wednesday (May 14) night, they went to a person named Bappi, a resident of Bastuhara Colony under Khalishpur police station in the city, to take extortion.
Police said that around 9:30 pm, Raihan, son of Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, a resident of Durbar Sangha Club area of Khalishpur area, entered the house of Bappi, a resident of Road No. 2, Bastuhara Colony. They claimed that Bappi was a friend of the fallen government. At that time, they demanded 3 lakh taka from Bappi. They also threatened that he would be handed over to the police if he did not pay the money. Later, Raihan and his accomplices were arrested and reported to the police.
Bappi’s wife Shahnewaz filed a case with Khalishpur police station on Thursday in this incident. It is mentioned in the case that those involved said that they had formed a new party. They demanded extortion to run the party.
The eight arrested people have been sent to court in the case, said Khalishpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam.
