Dr. Yunus awarded D-Lit degree by Soka University
For his outstanding contribution to social innovation and global development, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Soka University in Japan.
The university authorities conferred the honor at a modest ceremony in Tokyo on Friday (May 30).
The university authorities said that the revolutionary idea of microcredit to alleviate poverty around the world and the sustainable development through social business that he has highlighted is an exemplary example for the whole world. He has been awarded this honor in recognition of this contribution.
In a speech given at Soka University, Dr. Yunus said that the world system should not be run solely on a profit-based structure; rather, a society should be built where human creativity, cooperation and human values will be the driving force of development.
The Chief Advisor also held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo on the same day. Six memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries at the meeting. In addition, Japan announced to provide Bangladesh with budget assistance and $1.063 billion for railways.
