Dr. Zubaida appeals against sentence in corruption case

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman has appealed against her 3-year sentence in a corruption case.

She filed this appeal in the relevant branch of the High Court on Tuesday (May 13).

The High Court has forgiven Dr. Zubaida for 587 days of delay in appealing.

Zubaida Rahman’s lawyer Barrister Kaiser Kamal said that the application was filed before a single bench of Justice Khasruzzaman today.

Earlier, in August 2023, the court sentenced BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to 9 years and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman to three years in prison in a case of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.

After August 5, 2024, the government suspended Zubaida Rahman’s sentence on the condition of an appeal. Dr. Zubaida Rahman returned to the country with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on May 6 after 17 years.
