Economy of sacrifice to exceed 1 lakh crore taka: Farida Akhtar
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said, sacrifice is a matter of our emotions and religious feelings. It is expected that this time the economy of sacrifice will exceed 1 lakh crore taka.
She said this in her speech as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Sacrifice of domestic animals: What to do in animal and skin management’ organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural Journalists Forum (BAJF) on Monday (May 26) afternoon.
Referring to the turnaround of marginal farmers, Advisor Farida Akhtar said, local farmers have turned their back on cattle farming. I was surprised when I went to Rajshahi. They say there is a surplus of animals.
She also said that interest in raising cattle and goats locally has increased in border areas. With the change in times, women farmers and entrepreneurs are now raising cattle and goats from house to house. Now there is no dependence on foreign countries for sacrifice.
Stating that new doors of possibilities will be opened in the leather industry, the advisor said, this time the government has announced free distribution of salt to preserve raw hides. The price of raw hides has been fixed. If necessary, raw hides will be preserved and exported abroad.
