Extortion by imitating Khaleda Zia’s voice: Tk 5.5 crore frozen
The CID has frozen a total of 13 bank accounts on charges of extorting money by imitating the voice of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and impersonating her liaison officer. A total of Tk 5.333 crore has been temporarily seized from these accounts. This information was given in a notification signed by CID’s Special Police Superintendent (Media) Jasim Uddin Khan on Thursday (July 31). It said— Various reports and documents and a review of bank accounts found during the CID’s investigation revealed that accounts in the name of accused Motalles Hossain and individuals and organizations related to his interests have revealed suspicious transactions worth about Tk 26.84 crore. Work is underway to review his immovable properties and financial activities to investigate their involvement in money laundering and illicitly acquired assets. In addition, the CID is continuing its efforts to collect information from victims of fraud and identify other suspects in the organized crime ring involved in the incident.
