Football fans will be happy. After Hamza-Samit, another star is coming to Bangladesh. However, the journey of Italian expatriate footballer Fahmidul Islam with the red-green team is not new. This forward has been called up to play for Bangladesh before.
Bangladesh will play against Singapore in the home match of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10. Before that, the red-green army will also play a warm-up match. Coach Javier Cabrera will announce the preliminary team for these two matches after the Bangladesh Premier League ends.
It was a certainty that Italian expatriate footballer Fahmidul Islam would be called up to that team. Because Kabrera faced severe criticism from the fans for not including Fahmidul in the primary squad in the away match against India.
Many football fans took to the streets alleging that Fahmidul had been left out of the national team due to a syndicate. Finally, under the pressure of the fans, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan met with BFF President Tabith Awal.
Later, the issue of excluding the Italian expatriate footballer also came up in the National Teams Committee meeting. As per the fans’ demand, the national team management committee requested the coach to keep Fahmidul in the camp for the upcoming Singapore match.
However, before the primary team was announced, BFF wrote to his club Olbia Calasio asking for Fahmidul. In response, the Serie D club gave the forward a release for the matches on June 4 and 10. Olivia Calcio confirmed the clearance on their Facebook page, congratulating Fahmidul on his international journey.
Although whether Fahmidul will be in the final squad or not depends on the decision of Spanish coach Javier Cabrera. However, the Italian expatriate footballer will definitely be in the national team camp starting on May 31.
