Farakka Agreement to be renewed in due course: Environment Advisor

The time has not yet come to talk about the Farakka water sharing agreement. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor on Water Resources and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said that the agreement will be renewed in due course.

She told the media after visiting the source of the Baral River in Charghat Upazila of Rajshahi on Monday (May 19).

The advisor said that sand and land piracy in the country has reached its peak. Digging ponds on cropland has threatened the environment. 10-point instructions have been given to the district administrators to control this.

He said that the flow of the river cannot be blocked for the sake of the project. At this time, there is no need for a sluice gate in the Baral River.

The environment advisor also said that necessary measures, including river excavation, will be taken at this time in a coordinated effort.
