Farakka has created Karbala in this country: Fisheries Advisor
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar has commented that Farakka has created Karbala in this country. She said, we want justice for this injustice.
She told reporters this on Friday (May 16) afternoon before joining the discussion meeting as the chief guest on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the historic Farakka Long March at the Rajshahi College auditorium.
The advisor said, ‘India has done wrong by blocking the water in Farakka by building a dam. Maulana Bhasani did the Farakka Long March at the age of 90 to protest against the injustice. We will now get our fair share. We will sign another agreement with India for that. If we do not get our fair share, then we will take the matter to the international forum.’
Farida Akhtar said, ‘60 million people have been directly affected by the impact of Farakka. Many people have been indirectly affected. As a result, life and livelihood, fish and aquatic animals have been destroyed. The water has dried up and Karbala has been created in this country. We want a fair trial and share of it.’
Later, he joined the rally and discussion meeting of the historic Farakka Long March.
The meeting was attended by Rajshahi University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib, writer and researcher Benzin Khan, Press Institute of Bangladesh Director General Faruk Wasif, river researcher Mahbub Siddiqui, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Ejaz, Rajshahi College Principal Professor Md.
