Farooqui opens up about photoshoot with award winners standing behind them.
There is widespread criticism on social media about the photo session of the awardees of the ‘Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024’ standing behind each other. The interim government’s cultural advisor, Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui, has now opened up by explaining the photo session.
Advisor Farooqui made a post on the social media Facebook on Sunday night.
He wrote, there have been various discussions since yesterday about the group photo session of the awardees. You all know that there is a tradition of group photo sessions of the awardees on stage with representatives of the government or award-giving institutions. But we are a government that has come to reform. Why do we have to follow the tradition?
We discussed this in our ministry today. We have decided that this tradition of group photo sessions will not be kept from this year’s Ekushey Padak award ceremony. The ministry is working on where and how the group photo session will be held.
He also said, it has been six months since we were freed from the hands of a murderer-psychopath. Just six months! The murderer who has made hundreds of people disappear, killed thousands of people with opposing views, carried out a hellish massacre in July, killed Ilyas Ali after his disappearance and then made a drama by hugging his daughter, shot people from helicopters – what is the etiquette with him? What is the etiquette with Hitler? Are you serious? I have to say, dear murderer, please accept my respects?
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, at the inauguration ceremony of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, the interim government’s chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus presented this year’s Bangla Academy Literary Award to seven of the nominees for the award. Cultural advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui was present at the time.
At the event, the awardees were made to stand behind the guests and a photo session was held. Salimullah Khan, who received the award for essay/prose this year, was also in the queue standing behind to take a group photo. This is mainly the subject of various discussions and criticisms on social media.
