Former CEC Kazi Habibul Awal arrested
The Detective Police have arrested former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal from the capital’s Moghbazar. He was arrested at 1 pm on Wednesday (June 25), confirmed Joint Commissioner of Detective Police Nasirul Islam.
Earlier, on Sunday (June 22) morning, BNP filed a case against the 10th, 11th and 12th parliamentary elections commissioners Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed, KM Nurul Huda and Kazi Habibul Awal at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. 24 people, including three former Chief Election Commissioners, have been named as accused in the case.
The police arrested former CEC Nurul Huda from Uttara in the capital that evening in this case. He has been taken on a four-day remand. According to detective sources, Habibul Awal was shown arrested in the same case. In the 12th National Parliament Election in 2024, Kazi Habibul Awal served as the Chief Election Commissioner. On the other hand, the Commissioners were Md. Alamgir, Anisur Rahman, Begum Rashida Sultana and Brigadier General (Retd.) Ahsan Habib Khan.
Nurul Huda was the CEC from February 15, 2017 to February 14, 2022. The 11th National Election of 2018 was held under the commission headed by him.
