    Former MP Sultan Mansoor arrested

    Former Member of Parliament (MP) Sultan Mohammad Mansoor Ahmed was arrested after returning home from Canada.

    He was detained from the immigration of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Monday morning.

    Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) DB chief Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the matter to the media.

    He said that Sultan Mansoor has been detained by immigration for questioning due to some allegations. He will be interrogated.

    Sultan Mansoor’s family said that Sultan Mansoor had been traveling to UK, USA and Canada for a long time. He was out of the country long before the student movement. There is no case against him so far.

    Sultan Mohammad Mansoor Ahmed became known for the leadership of the Chhatra League in the eighties. He was the VP of Dhaka University Students’ Union as the sole president of Chhatra League in independent Bangladesh. Although he is known as a politician of Awami League, currently Mohammad Mansoor is an active leader of the newly formed political alliance Jatiya Oikya Front.

    In the 2018 11th National Parliament Elections, Mansoor was elected a Member of Parliament by contesting in the Moulvibazar-2 constituency with the symbol of a grain of rice on the nomination of Jatiya Oikya Front.
