He made these comments while virtually joining the discussion meeting of the 18th founding anniversary of the National People’s Party at the Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium in Kakrail in the capital on Sunday (May 25).
Calling for constructive criticism of the government, Tarique Rahman said that whether it is an interim or caretaker government, the people should continue to constructively criticize the government. There is no room for disrespect or anger towards the government.
Expressing hope for fair elections under the current government, he said that BNP met with the chief advisor of the interim government and demanded elections by December. The people will see the freest and fairest elections in the country through this government.
Regarding the people’s right to vote, the acting chairman of BNP said, “Although the people have the right to vote in the constitution, the Awami League government did not allow them to vote. If the parliament had been formed with representatives of the people at that time, they would have had less opportunity to become fascists.” Stating that reforms are a continuous process, Tarique Rahman said, “There is no such thing as little or more reforms. Reforms are a continuous process. However, the government has created a deadlock by imposing NBR reforms before the budget.”
