Gaza ceasefire deal could happen next week: Trump

US President Donald Trump has expressed hope that a ceasefire and hostage deal could happen in Gaza next week. The US president made the comments after Hamas said it was ready to hold immediate talks to implement the ceasefire. According to the Times of Israel report, a journalist on Air Force One told Trump on Friday (July 4) that Hamas had responded positively to the latest ceasefire proposal. In response, Trump said, “Well, that’s very good. There could be a ceasefire deal in Gaza by next week.”

However, Trump told reporters that he had not yet been formally informed about Hamas’ latest response. Hamas had previously responded positively to US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal. The group said in a Telegram post on Friday that it was willing to participate in the talks. According to Trump’s proposal, 18 bodies and some Palestinian prisoners would be returned in exchange for the release of 10 living Israeli hostages. The proposed 60-day ceasefire will see food, relief and medical services gradually return. However, Hamas wants guarantees of a permanent ceasefire.

Israeli media say that Tel Aviv is reviewing the proposal made by Hamas. Last Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced a final proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. At the same time, he said that Israel has already accepted the necessary conditions for a ceasefire. During this time, efforts will continue to find a permanent solution to the war.
