Gaza death toll passes 60,000: Palestinian Health Ministry
More than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip in the nearly two-year-long war between Israel and Hamas, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Tuesday (July 29) local time. A total of 113 people were killed between 6am local time on Tuesday (July 29) and 6am on Wednesday (July 30), the ministry said, bringing the total death toll to 60,034. The long-running conflict has raised international concerns about the civilian toll and humanitarian catastrophe. Meanwhile, a leading aid agency said that more than a third of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Gaza are suffering from acute malnutrition, amid a worsening health situation. The UK-based organization Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) said on Monday (July 28) local time that 44% of pregnant mothers screened by their local affiliate, Ard al-Insan, were “suffering from severe malnutrition and need urgent treatment.”
